In the meantime, this newsletter is not just about letting you know the wonders of washing with sulfur soap ! So here is some useful information by an an expert Carl Duncan about chiggers. (ps.A chigger doesn't like sulphur at all! That's why sulfur soap is a wonder soap for campers and hunters to wash with!)

chiggerChigger, or Jigger, is the common name of two kinds of pests that attack us humans. One is the chigoe flea, and the other is the larva of a harvest mite. Only the latter lives in the United States.

The harvest mite is a tiny red creature with a body divided into two parts. It creeps into skin pores and hair follicles to feed, and causes a rash and instant itching. The female chigoe digs into the flesh and lays eggs that cause a sore. Mites usually attack small animals.

The harvest mite is merely a nuisance in North America and Europe. But in Oriental countries and many Pacific Islands, it is a serious danger because it carries a typhus like disease called Japanese river fever, or Tsutsugamushi. The parasitic larvae of the harvest mite usually get the disease from infected rodents. The mite keeps the disease during its nymphal and adult stages, and gives it to the larvae of the next generation, which pass it on to man. Harvest mites are common in the Middle West and the South.

The scientific classification for those interested in biology is as follows. The chigoe flea belongs to the jigger and sticktight family, Tungidae. It is genus Tunga, spieces T. penetrans. Harvest mites (North American chiggers) make up the family Trombidiidae. They are genus Trombicula, species T. alfreddugesi.

Sulfur Soap Customer Testimonial

D.W., from Texas writes,

"Your soap is working great as a chigger/redbug repellent. I use it every night and it really seems to repel the little critters. It also seems to take a lot of the itch out of the bites I do get when you use it the next time.

Just thought I'd let you know my opinion of your soap. I know this is not what the soap was designed for but it works quite well. I will be ordering more. "

Thanks
D.W.
